Flow, discharge sensors and systems

These flow, discharge sensors and systems use acoustic Doppler techniques to measure the speed of water (current). From this, flow and discharge can be calculated. Some instruments measure a complete current profile. Applications include:

  • Measuring the discharge of a canal or river;
  • Berthing assistance (for ships);
  • Monitoring currents at sea for shipping, offshore or marine engineering.

SonTek Argonaut SL family

SonTek Argonaut SL

Inspired by the need for a SIMPLE way to measure water velocity and level in open channels, the Argonaut-SL, (affectionately known as the Side-Looker) has earned

worldwide acceptance as a long-term monitoring solution. Fully featured with accessories, mounting options, software, and a variety of integration formats, the Argonaut-SL fits your application in the way you need it to.

SonTek Argonaut SW

SonTek Argonaut SW

Using SonTek's proven pulsed acoustic Doppler technology, the Argonaut-SW is the superior choice for accurate flow measurements in natural streams, man-made channels, and pipes. Because it is a "fast sampling" velocity profiler, the SW accounts for variations in the velocity field to make the most accurate flow measurements possible.

SonTek Flow Tracker

SonTek FlowTracker

Designed with the field user in mind, this handheld ADV® (Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter) measures 2D or 3D currents,attaches easily to wading rods, and features an automatic discharge computation using a variety of international methods, including ISO and USGS standards. At the end of the data run, just press a button and the FlowTracker calculates the discharge for you!

SonTek RiverSurveyor

SonTek River Surveyor

The RiverSurveyor S5/M9 systems give a new perspective to the notion of measuring open channel hydraulics. Using SonTek's exclusive SmartPulseHDTM, multiple acoustic frequencies are fused with precise bandwidth control for the most robust and continuous shallow-to-deep discharge measurements ever. A deterministic microcontroller expertly apportions the proper acoustics, pulse scheme, and cell size to get the highest definition possible so you can focus on the measurement, not the instrument setup. The system even has a vertical beam for precise channel definition and it's all designed to work intuitively.
